White Deer Visions
Meeting White Deer
April 2022
One morning I was practising techniques of craniosacral therapy with a colleague and friend from my class. I was on the table and she was practising various protocols of healing touch along my craniosacral rhythms. As she worked on me, I felt a powerful energetic ‘storm’ build inside my head — a maelstrom of energy roiling inside my head, and rising to what I anticipated would be an explosive crescendo. I wasn’t scared because there was also a great feeling of meaning and purpose in what was happening. I sensed that something powerful was going to burst free, and then, in a climactic explosion, with my inner seeing I saw a beautiful deer essentially leap from the energetic storm inside my head and come to standing beside me as I lay on the table.
Immediately, all was calm. With my inner seeing I saw that the spirit deer was peaceful, beautiful, majestic. She stood beside me in all her beauty. Then, I saw her move to the far side of the room which in my inner seeing was now also an open field. It seemed to me she now stood at the edge of the woods. I asked her for her name and I heard, ‘Fiona.’ I didn’t yet know the significance of the name Fiona in the old Irish tradition of Deer mythology.
When it was my turn to practice on my colleague, I saw again the white deer and this time she lay her head down on my colleague’s body as I practised the protocols. I felt great peace in myself, in the deer, and in my friend’s body. It was beautiful and incredibly peaceful. It was clear to me that the deer was offering healing and I didn’t need to know anything about it. My only role was to observe.
The whole experience was deeply affecting so I brought it into meditation later that afternoon. I intuited there was more for me to see and to learn. When I sat to meditated I had a strong sense of that part of Hebrew Scripture that speaks of the Holy of Holies.
Meditating with the White Deer
I began my sit already feeling the presence of the white deer with me. I felt drawn to read Psalm 42:1 ‘Just as the deer longs for flowing water, so longs my soul for God, my only God.’ As I read, I felt fire exploding in my body. An immediate understanding landed that the deer is my soul. Again, I felt beautiful fire burning in my body. Looking at the deer with my inner seeing, it felt as if I was looking into a stream and that my image was reflected back at me as this white deer. I felt incredible holiness. I sensed that I was both myself and also the deer. Then I saw her enter a forest and take her place in a circle of white deer and men who looked like medieval knights. It felt very holy, bright, and light. I wondered were the men medieval Knights of Christ, or maybe Knights of the White Deer? I felt incredible holiness. Then, with my inner hearing, I heard, ‘You have entered the Inner Sanctum of Life. … Life has an inner sanctum.’ I had a sense that this opening in the forest was the ‘Holy of Holies … and that the white deer was the white deer of Christ. I wondered did the white deer signify souls belonging to Christ?
Afterwards, I did some brief research online about the white deer in Irish and Celtic mythology and found the story of Sadhbh who had a white deer with golden antlers. Sadhbh also had the experience of herself becoming a white deer. The name Fiona was mentioned. Later again, I learned that medicine women are always accompanied by the spirit of the White deer.
From this day on the sacred White Deer has accompanied me in all my spiritual journeying and in my inner transformation.
More coming soon…
